During the late 1940's and throughout the 1950's Leon D. DeMatteis Construction Corporation became the largest Public School Contractor on Long Island.
 

In 1997 the NYCSCA (New York City School Construction Authority) embarked on a new program, Design Build. The SCA or their appointed consultant would prepare a preliminary concept for a school. The conceptual documents would include schematics including bulk, zoning, special features, etc. Than they would invite Design-Builders to compete for the schools

From the time of award the school facility had to be completed for occupancy in 24 months, at least 12 months less than the normal bid process.

Starting in 2000 Leon D. DeMatteis Construction Corp. bid and won Design-Build competitions for eight (8) Public Schools under the NYCSCA program, all successfully completed.
