Recently The
DeMatteis Organizations completed public school PS/IS 156 on Sutter
Ave, in Brooklyn, New York. The new school accommodates 200 seventh
and eighth graders
and 900 K-6 students. Features of the school are two outdoor basket
ball courts, a children's sensory, garden classroom an outdoor
classroom story area, outdoor board games, early childhood play
structures, a dance studio and music suite, durable, high-quality,
low-maintenance materials: terrazzo floors, steel doors, painted
concrete block walls in classrooms, and attractively finished glazed
concrete block in corridors and all public spaces to assure a
utilitarian, tank like resiliency that is still user-friendly.
Designed for future wireless use, classrooms are flexible and can be
converted from standard format to the popular small cluster.
The $53 million,
four-story school is located on a 120,000-sq.-ft site that once
housed the previous P.S. 156.
